The US Fish and Wildlife Service was not aware of problems that musicians could have with new rules for ivory import, intended to protect African elephants by combating illegal trade in ivory. Now , some exceptions have been added, so that musicians can enter instruments containing African elephant ivory – including ivory-tipped bows – if the ivory was legally acquired prior to February 26, 1976. While a step forward for musicians, the rules still prohibit the entry of even antique instruments and bows containing ivory purchased after February 25, 2014.
