The United States has issued new Russia-related sanctions targeting 17 individuals, including Sergei Roldugin, a cellist and conductor who the Treasury Department says acts as « custodian of Putin’s offshore wealth, » and Roldugin’s opera singer wife, Elena Mirtova. Roldugin is already under sanctions imposed by the European Union, Britain, Australia, and New Zealand for his links to Putin.
The sanctions take further action “to degrade the key networks used by Russia’s elites, including President Vladimir Putin, to attempt to hide and move money and anonymously make use of luxury assets around the globe,” the U.S. Treasury Department said in a news release.
