Russian conductor Valery Gergiev has been named Music Director of the Verbier Festival Orchestra. The message says: « Despite a schedule which would make dizzy the busiest politicians, Valery Gergiev regularly appeared at the Verbier Festival. » Due to all those activities and to a bond of friendship with the festival’s General Manager Martin Engstroem, Gergiev has accepted to become the new Music Director, succeeding Charles Dutoit (2009-2017).
