Russian conductor Valery Gergiev is the recipient of the 2014 Karol Szymanowski Foundation Prize‘. He was awarded the distinction “in recognition of his services in the worldwide promotion of Szymanowski’s music and the highest artistic standards of the recording of the composer’s symphonies with London Symphony Orchestra”.
Gergiev’s first conducted Szymanowski in France in 1988. In 2008 he conducted the opera ‘King Roger’ in St-Petersburg and in the 2012/13 season he gave a series of concerts throughout Europe featuring Szymanowski’s symphonies.
