According to a report broadcast by Minnesota Public Radio, the former Music director of the Minnesota Orchestra, Osmo Vänskä, has said Orchestra President Michael Henson would have to step down before he could think about accepting to become again Music director in Minneapolis. Vänskä was quoted, “For any healing to begin at the orchestra, Michael Henson must go.”
Neither the Orchestra nor Michael Henson did comment. The Minnesota Orchestra performed Friday at Orchestra Hall for the first time since the 16-month lockout began. Stanislaw Skrowaczewski conducted. At the beginning of that concert voices from the audience demanded Vänskä’s return. “We want Osmo. Bring back Osmo,” they shouted.
