Vasily Petrenko will become Music Director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) at the beginning of the 2021-22 Season, initially for five years. He will be the successor if the dismissed Charles Dutoit.
Petrenko will become the RPO’s Music Director Designate in August 2020, after he leaves his current job as Chief Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2021 he will also step down as Music Director of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. This orchestra will name him Conductor Laureate at that time, when he will have led the orchestra for 15 years.
