Russian conductor Alexander Vedernikov has been named Music Director of the Kongelige Kapel (Royal Orchestra) at the Danish Royal Opera Theatre in Copenhagen. Vedernikov, 52, graduated from the Music Academy in Moscow. He is best known as director of the Bolshoi Theatre from 2001 to 2009. Since 2009 he has been chief conductor at the Odense Symphony Orchestra, some 170 kilometres west of Copenhagen.
