Francesco Cilea (1866-1950) war kein besonders produktiver und auch kein besonders erfolgreicher Komponist. Von seinen fünf Opern sind L’Arlesiana und Adriana Lecouvreur bekannt. Es gibt von ihm Klavierstücke, Kammermusik und mehrere Chorwerke. Auf diesem Album erklingen die Suite für Violine und Orchester aus dem Jahre 1946 und die Piccola-Suite für Cello und Orchester von 1932, zwei klassisch gehaltene, sehr farbig komponierte und in vorliegendem Fall ausdrucksvoll und elegant gespielte Werke
Dazwischen sind das etwas pathetische Il Canto Dell’Amore on a theme by Francesco Cilea von Raffaele Cacciola und das Cellokonzert von Leonardo Leo (1694-1744) einem der wichtigsten Vertreter des neapolitanischen Barocks, zu hören.
Enrico Bronzis Interpretation ist in den Ecksätzen voller erfrischendem Elan, im Larghetto von expressivem Cantabile.
Das Ensemble I Virtuosi della Scala spielt inspiriert und auf solidem Niveau.
Francesco Cilea (1866-1950) was neither a particularly prolific nor a particularly successful composer. Of his five operas, L’Arlesiana and Adriana Lecouvreur are well known. He wrote piano pieces, chamber music and several choral works. This album contains the Suite for Violin and Orchestra from 1946 and the Piccola Suite for Cello and Orchestra from 1932, two classical, colorfully composed and, in this case, expressively and elegantly played works.
In between are the somewhat pathetic Il Canto Dell’Amore on a theme by Francesco Cilea by Raffaele Cacciola and the Cello Concerto by Leonardo Leo (1694-1744), one of the most important representatives of the Neapolitan Baroque.
Enrico Bronzi’s interpretation is full of refreshing verve in the outer movements and expressive cantabile in the Larghetto.
The ensemble I Virtuosi della Scala plays with inspiration and at a solid level.
