Jan Vogler interpretiert auf seiner neuesten CD Arien aus Opern und einige Popsongs aus dem 20. Jahrhundert. Dass ein solches Programm nicht nur seichte Unterhaltung wird, dafür steht die künstlerische Integrität Voglers. Er singt die Arien nicht nur, er sorgt dafür, dass sein Cello auch darstellerisch aktiv wird und die Charaktere sowie ihr Handeln verdeutlicht. Er lässt das Instrument in die Figuren der Dido, der Königin der Nacht, von Carmen, Wolfram und dem Figaro schlüpfen. Dass dies bei den Popmusik-Schlagern nicht so gut funktioniert und gerade diese Stück banaler wirken, liegt wohl dann doch an der Qualität der Musik. Dieser kommerzielle Kniefall war eigentlich überflüssig, und einige schöne Opernarien wären umso willkommener gewesen.
Jan Vogler performs arias from operas and some pop songs from the 20th century on his latest CD. Vogler’s artistic integrity ensures that such a program is not just shallow entertainment. He not only sings the arias, he also makes sure that his cello becomes active as a performer, clarifying the characters and their actions. He lets the instrument slip into the characters of Dido, the Queen of the Night, Carmen, Wolfram and Figaro. The fact that this doesn’t work so well with the pop music hits, and that these pieces in particular seem more banal, is then probably due to the quality of the music. This commercial genuflection was actually superfluous, and some beautiful opera arias would have been all the more welcome.
