Der sizilianische Cellist Alessio Pianelli (*1989) hat auf dieser CD sechs Kompositionen zusammengesetzt, die in 25 Abschnitten kleine, von Volksmusik und Volkstänzen inspirierte Musikstücke enthalten. Das ergibt ein gefälliges und unterhaltsames Programm, das in den schwungvollen und virtuosen Interpretationen von Pianelli und den Musikern des von ihm geleiteten Avos Chamber Orchestra* aufblüht und Unbeschwertes neben melancholisch-nostalgischen Melodien stellt. Dabei geht Pianelli durchaus eigene Wege mit individuellen Phrasierungen, exquisitem Rubato und fein nuancierten Farben. Er lässt sein Cello und sein Orchester singen und tanzen.

Das ist suggestives Musizieren auf hohem spieltechnischem Niveau, das umso deutlicher wird, als auch die Tonaufnahme von hervorragender Qualität ist. Der Klang ist sehr präsent, voll und satt, gleichzeitig aber auch von bestechender Transparenz.

Die CD endet mit den aparten und exquisiten, originell und phantasievoll realisierten Variations on a Sicilian Theme von Alessio Pianelli selber.

* Das Avos Chamber Orchestra ist ein Ensemble der Avos Musikschule aus Rom, an der Pianelli auch unterrichtet.

On this CD, Sicilian cellist Alessio Pianelli (b. 1989) has put together six compositions, 25 small pieces of music inspired by folk music and folk dances. This makes for a pleasing and entertaining program that blossoms in the lively and virtuosic interpretations of Pianelli and the musicians of the Avos Chamber Orchestra*, placing lightheartedness alongside melancholy and nostalgic melodies. In doing so, Pianelli certainly goes his own way with individual phrasing, exquisite rubato and finely nuanced colors. He lets his cello and his orchestra sing and dance.
This is suggestive music-making on a high technical level, which is all the more evident because the sound recording is also of excellent quality. The sound is very present, full and rich, but at the same time of captivating transparency.
The CD concludes with the distinctive and exquisite, originally and imaginatively realized Variations on a Sicilian Theme by Alessio Pianelli himself.
