Das 2020 gegründete Ensemble Wigmore Soloists liefert von Schuberts Oktett eine Interpretation, wie ich sie mag: soft-symphonisch im Sound, weich auf den Kanten, sensibel musiziert und dennoch von erfrischender Vitalität.
Der erste Satz ist flüssig und bestens ausbalanciert, das Adagio erklingt fast träumerisch, über weite Strecken auch sehr melancholisch, während der dritte Satz mit toller Agogik sehr charmant wirkt. Auch die übrigen Sätze werden wunderbar ausgeformt. In ihren solistischen Parts brillieren der Hornist Alberto Menéndez Escribano, Robin O’Neill am Fagott und Michael Collins auf der Klarinette. Generell ist das Zusammenspiel sehr homogen und inspiriert.
Der Surround-Sound der in der Wigmore Hall aufgenommenen SACD ist vorzüglich und sehr natürlich.
The ensemble Wigmore Soloists, founded in 2020, delivers an interpretation of Schubert’s Octet as I like it: soft-symphonic in sound, soft on the edges, sensitively played and yet of refreshing vitality.
The first movement is fluid and well balanced, the Adagio sounds almost dreamy, in some passages also very melancholic, while the agogically varied third movement is very charming. The other movements are also wonderfully shaped. Hornist Alberto Menéndez Escribano, Robin O’Neill on bassoon and Michael Collins on clarinet excel in their solo parts. In general, interplay is very homogeneous and inspired.
The surround sound of the SACD recorded at the Wigmore Hall is excellent and very natural.
