Myung-Whun Chung

Rumors reported by The Korea Herald say that conductor Myung-whun Chung, 71, might become the next music director of the KBS Symphony in Seoul.

Chung stepped down as Music Director of the Seoul Philharmonic in 2015. He stepped down as Principal Conductor of KBS in 1998, only four months into his three-year tenure due to internal disagreements. In 2022, the orchestra appointed Chung as its first ‘Honorary Conductor’, and he has been collaborating with the orchestra for several concerts.

Chung has also been appointed general director of  Busan’s municipal performance venues, including the Busan Opera House and the Busan International Art Center in 2023. These venues are scheduled to open in 2025.
