Das Ensemble La Rêveuse spielt Musik von Louis de Caix d’Hervelois (1690-1760), dem sogenannten ‘Erben von Marin Marais’. Er war einer seiner brillantesten Schüler und er hat der Bassgambe zu neuem Ansehen verholfen, als die Bedeutung des Instruments allmählich nachließ.
Florence Bolton spielt die Bassgambe und das Pardessus de viole und entlockt den Instrumenten einen runden, samtig-weichen Ton mit teilweise ungeahnt kraftvollen Klangfarben. Das rhythmisch-pulsierende Spiel der Gambistin und ihrer Partner Carsten Lohff am Cembalo und Benjamin Perrot, Gitarre und Theorbe, gibt der Musik einen tänzerisch-beseelten Esprit, der überzogenem Manierismus dennoch stets abhold bleibt und Bolton die Möglichkeit gibt, ihre melodischen Phrasen mit schier endlos langem Atem zu entfalten. Der Flötist Serge Saïtta brilliert mit vollem und warmem Klang.
The ensemble La Rêveuse plays music by Louis de Caix d’Hervelois (1690-1760), the so-called ‘heir of Marin Marais’. He was one of his most brilliant students, and he brought new prestige to the bass viol when the instrument’s importance gradually declined.
Florence Bolton plays the bass viol and the pardessus de viole and elicits a round, velvety-soft tone from the instruments with sometimes unexpectedly powerful timbres. The rhythmic, pulsating playing of the viola da gamba player and her partners Carsten Lohff on harpsichord and Benjamin Perrot, guitar and theorbo, gives the music a dance-like, soulful esprit, which nevertheless always remains aloof from excessive mannerism and gives Bolton the opportunity to unfold her melodic phrases with seemingly endless breath. Flutist Serge Saïtta shines with a full and warm sound.
