The Yamagata Symphony Orchestra has appointed Tetsuro Ban as Chief Conductor from April 2019 on. Ban was born in Kyoto City in 1968. He studied at Kyoto City University of Arts and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He won the 1995 Besançon International Conducting Competition. In 2005 he became Generalmusikdirektor in Eisenach, Germany, and from 2009 until 2017 he was in the same position in Regensburg. He served as the Yamagata Symphony’s Principal Guest Conductor from 2007 to 2009.
