23-year-old Chinese pianist Ying Li won First Prize as well as the Audience Award at the first edition of the Antonio Mormone International Prize (Premio Internazionale Antonio Mormone). The finals took place at La Scala in Milan.
Ying Li, originally from Beijing, entered the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia in 2012 and studied with Professor Jonathan Biss. In 2019, she went to The Juilliard School to study with Robert McDonald.
The jury of the final phase of the Antonio Mormone International Prize is composed of Bruno Canino, Nazzareno Carusi, Enrica Ciccarelli, Ivan Fedele, Cristina Frosini, Olga Kern, Aleksandar Madzar, Etienne Reymond, Michael Stille, Alexei Volodin, and Ingolf Wunder.
Ying Li will return to Milan in October at the end of a long European and Italian tour that is part of the Prize, in addition to the sum of 30.000 Euros, the recording of her album debut with Universal, a contract with agent Lorenzo Baldrighi and the Carl Bechstein Prize that will take her to perform on the stage of the Konzerthaus in Berlin.
A prize of €5,000 will also go to each of the two finalists, Poland’s Piotr Pawlak and Korea’s Su Yeon Kim.
