Die Munich Opera Horns, ein zehnköpfiges Ensemble des Bayerischen Staatsorchesters wurden 2007 gegründet, sie präsentieren auf dieser CD « eine Klangreise von den Ursprüngen ihres Instruments bis zu zeitgenössischer Musik fürs moderne Ventilhorn. »
Sie spielen originale Werke und Bearbeitungen, darunter das zweite Hornkonzert von Richard Strauss. Angefangen und beendet wird das Programm mit zwei Stücken für vier Alphörner.
Das zeitgenössische Stück Voyager 2 von Konstantia Gourzi schert nur scheinbar aus dem übrigen Programmkonzept aus. Voyager 2 ist etwas wie eine Nachtmusik, teils sehr lyrisch und fast traditionell, teils sehr modern, durchwegs mysteriös.
Die Munich Opera Horns spielen in allen Werken lebendig und phantasievoll, so dass die CD zu einem wahren Ohrenschmaus wird. Und das nicht nur für Horn-Fans!
The Munich Opera Horns, an ensemble of the Bavarian State Orchestra, were founded in 2007; on this CD they present « a sound journey from the origins of their instrument to contemporary music for the modern valve horn. »
They play original works and arrangements, including the Second Horn Concerto by Richard Strauss. The program will begin and end with two pieces for four alphorns.
The contemporary piece Voyager by Konstantia Gourzi only seemingly sheers from the rest of the program. Voyager is something like a night music, partly very lyrical and almost traditional, partly very modern, mysterious throughout.
The Munich Opera Horns play vividly and imaginatively in all the works, making the CD a real treat for the ears. And not only for horn fans!
