The 84-year-old conductor Zubin Mehta was hospitalized last Saturday after fainting during a rehearsal of Strauss’ Salome at La Scala in Milan. He had been rehearsing for several days for a performance of Richard Strauss’ Salome, which will be broadcast live on Rai 5 on Saturday, February 20. Doctors were blaming stress due to overwork.
Today, according to reports in the Italian press, Zubin Mehta’s conditions have improved and the maestro should be discharged and resume very soon the rehearsals of Salome at La Scala. Meanwhile, however the Scala announced on their website that Chailly will take over and conduct the Salome.
