Saturday evening conductor Zubin Mehta inaugurated the season at Teatro San Carlo in Naples with a Tchaikovsky concert. According to the Italian newspaper ‘La Republicca’ he offered his fee to the orchestra, asking them to buy instruments with it. « The musicians play wholeheartedly, but they have no valuable instruments », the conductor said.
